History of Alamo Anvils
Timeline:
- 1875 – Founding of Alamo Iron Works (AIW)
- 1879 – Alamo Iron Works purchased by Holmngreen & Sons [1]
- 1884 Dec 22nd – The San Antonio Light notes that Alamo Iron Works is succeeding under the new management and is expanding. It’s noted that they are erecting new shops and foundry in order to meet the growing demand for their work. The new works are located on the Southern Pacific railroad a short distance south of Commerce street. have a foundry 40×80 feet with a blast furnace of 8000lbs capacity, a cleaning room 35×40, an office/store room 20×35. Soon a machine shop 30×100 and an engine room 30×40. This will give Alamo Iron Works one of the most complete foundry and machine shops in the Southwest.
- 1885 – 11th April – In the San Antonio Light it’s recorded that Alamo Ironworks has finished their move to Sunset road, near East Commerce street. AIW runs first advertisement I’ve seen in the same edition. This same add runs in the paper intermittently through at least September 11th 1885.
