Historic Blacksmiths
As I research the history of blacksmithing I sometimes come across blacksmiths I find particularly interesting due to the impact they have had on the history of blacksmithing.
Thomas Williams: The King of Anvil Makers – (1846-1910) Originally from Dudley England where he likely worked at Alldays & Onions and Peter Wright he immigrated to the united states in the late 1880s where he helped start the production of anvils at the American Wrought Anvil Co., Hay Budden, and went on to work at Columbus Forge & Iron Co.
Shortly before his Death Charles P. Crowe wrote in The Horseshoers’ Journal a short biography of Thomas Williams giving him the moniker the King of Anvil Makers for his contribution to anvil making in the United States.
